Common questions

Frequently asked

1. What are the uniform requirements for class?
  • Grappling: Rash guard or fitted t-shirt and shorts (no zippers or pockets).
  • All gear must be clean and nails trimmed for hygiene and safety.
2. Do I need to be fit to start?
No. Everyone starts somewhere. Classes are structured so you build fitness as you learn technique. Go at your own pace.
3. How old do I need to be?
Classes combine adults and teenagers aged 14 and over. The $15 casual rate applies to ages 14–15; members aged 16+ use the adult rate. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to sign a waiver.
4. Will I get injured?
We prioritise safety. Warm-ups, supervised drilling, and no sparring without coaching approval. Minor bruises can happen; serious injury is rare.
5. Do you spar / roll on the first night?
No. Your first few sessions focus on basic movements, breakfalls and positional drills. Sparring is optional and only after you're comfortable.
6. What if I have no grappling experience?
That's normal. Most members started as beginners. The free intro class covers the absolute basics – no prior knowledge needed.
7. Can I just watch a class before joining?
Yes. You're welcome to observe a session. Just message ahead so we know you're coming.
8. What if I can't make it every week?
That's fine. Train when you can. There is no attendance requirement or contract lock-in.
9. Do you have changing rooms or showers?
The venue has changing facilities and showers. Most students arrive ready to train.
10. Can I bring a friend to the free trial?
Yes. They can also book a free trial. Just let us know in advance so we have space.
